For all of you who have been following along, either via Twitter or Facebook, you probably know the BF and I have been having a fun-filled couple of months.
Our plans to move to Boston were compromised when I found out I was short tuition by about $4,000. We could have paid for it, but then we’d have little-to-nothing left with which to actually MOVE, so Boston was no longer a priority, but more of a “nice-if-it-happens.”
The situation turned into “Battle of the Job Hunt: MA v. CA.” The winner? California. The BF ended up finding a job out here within just a couple of weeks, but the catch? It was over an hour away from where we were currently living. I probably cried for a good two days, and felt like throwing up 10 times. I didn’t care that I couldn’t go to school, I just wanted to be closer to my family. But I guess that’s not what the world has planned for us right now.
Before he could start his new job, we needed to move, so our situation turned once again, but this time, into “FIND AN APARTMENT FIND AN APARTMENT FIND AN APARTMENT.” We found one within a couple of days, and immediately started boxing up everything we owned, and our friends were kind enough (and bribed by free lunch) to help us.
Our new kitchen is pretty much just as tiny as every other kitchen we’ve ever had. I wasn’t expecting much; my only “MUST-HAVE” was a gas stove.
Our living room…
Our dining room…
Ok we have a lot of boxes to get through. Let me see if I can get some help: Gambit, can you start unpacking those boxes over there?
Harvey, Gambit… guys? Hello?
One thing we realized, is how little *stuff* we actually owned. Pots/pans/forks/spoons/towels… so we’ve been to Target about 15 times in the past week. Complaining? Yes. Yes I am.
We don’t have much storage, so unfortunately we’ve had to keep some of the BF’s ugly furniture. One of those pieces was this ugly little bookcase-side table-thingy. If it were up to him, everything we own would be black. Soooo… I bought some paint and got my craft-on.
Here’s what it looked like before:

And after (the paint is Behr Paint and Primer All in One in the color “Adriatic Mist,” and Martha Stewart Textured Metallic paint on top):
I’m thinking about throwing some casters under it so it can roll around… but that will have to wait.
The best part about moving so far? WE’RE GETTING A BED.
You guys don’t understand: A REAL bed. For the past 5 years we’ve slept on a cheap full-size futon that has zero cushion left. It’s pretty much just springs, and we threw a 1″ memory foam topper on it. But not anymore! Today we’re having our new QUEEN SIZE mattress delivered! I’m way too excited about this purchase. We’re saving up for a couch next, so we can finally eliminate this futon once and for all.
So now that we’re all settled in, things should go back to normal, and hopefully I’ll get a new posts up soon. ALSO, the site is getting a completely makeover. It’s about 92% finished, probably a couple more solid days of work, and it will be complete. I’m really excited about the new design, and can’t wait to reveal it, along with some new recipes I’ve been working on.
And now? It’s nap time.
Aww wow! Loving the new look of the little bookshelf
Just found your blog and I love it. Going to try your strawberry & rosemary infused vodka this weekend!
Good luck with the move and your site re-design.
