Experiment V – Day 5

Ok, so it’s day 5, and I know that last time I said I was going to try breakfast today, but I just couldn’t. I fail at breakfast. I can’t even cheat if I wanted to, because the other day ants took over our cupboard and infested my deliciously sweet cereals. RIP Honeycombs.

The BF and I tried coconut water today. Let me preface this by saying that the only foods this man won’t eat, are cucumbers and watermelon. Otherwise, if he doesn’t find something particularly tasty, he’ll still appreciate its uniqueness, and devour it. So he opens the cute little blue box of coconut water, and takes a sip, (meanwhile I’m too busy throwing something away to see his reaction,) and I hear him say, “Try it.” His expression now is pretty blank, because he never likes ruining surprises, but he’s carefully watching me take a sip. We’re in public mind you, so my natural instinct to immediately spit this out on the ground is being blocked by what would be acceptable behavior in front of strangers. “OH GOD, IT’S LIKE SOUR MILK,” I cried aloud. Completely dazed and confused by how we were wronged by this coconut water, we scurried around to find the trash can again to throw it away. I’m sure this whole thing looked great to passersby.

So I wanted to ask the coconut water lovers out there: what is the appeal? And what did you think of it, the first time you had a sip? Feel free to leave me some comments :)

For dinner we had some dill, lemon and garlic quinoa patties with broccolini. I cheated here and used an egg, just to help the little lumps stay together. I planned on making spaghetti with marinara, but the BF reminded me that the point of this wasn’t to just eat pasta for every meal. Doing the right thing sucks.

I looooved the crunchy outside and fluffy inside texture of the cakes, but it wasn’t very filling. I made 2 small cakes for the both of us, but I couldn’t finish them. Remember my talk about Grilled Cheese Syndrome? One quinoa patty was more than enough; I was still hungry but just couldn’t eat anymore quinoa. So after dinner we had some dried fruit as a snack.

AND we made it to the gym, so for those of you who are counting, we’ve gone 3 out of the 5 days so far. Not too bad… And as far as the sleepiness/mood swings go, that didn’t happen at all today. I felt fully awake, and haven’t been irritable at all. Maybe my body is just starting to accept that this is how things are gonna be for the next few days. ;)

Maybe breakfast tomorrow? Maybe.
